Eddie should already be up and out the door for his shift at the Fire Station, but his alarm had not gone off. Because someone (future him) had turned it off on the assumption he was on vacation.

And that would have been the weirdest part of things if he had been alone in bed like normal.

But instead... "Buck?"

"That's not fair," Buck whined. "Nobody cares if you're late for work."

"Of course someone cares if I'm late," Eddie said with zero proof of it as he tried to find his uniform on autopilot. "Don't be a baby, it's just pizza boxes and beer."

Okay, the beer totally made the blank weekend make more sense. Ignoring how it was just a few bottles.

Yeah, either they became lightweights or it was the strongest beer on the planet.

"Are you trying to run off for some reason?"

What reason could he possibly be running off for, there was a perfectly logical explanation for everything that happened.

"No," Eddie scoffed. "Of course not."

Oh yeah, adding more to the denial helped really make it sound like the truth.

"You just don't want to clean up on your own."

"Uh, duh," Buck said. "It'll go faster if we do it together."

Maybe Buck was just so much more practiced at... weird weekends. And Eddie was more of a weird long term... period of time.

Yes.

That totally made as much sense as all of this.

"Fine, you get a garbage bag," he said with a sigh. "But we have to hurry. I'm serious about not wanting to be late."

Buck gave Eddie a little salute. "Yes, sir."

Maybe he'd find some pants somewhere along the line, too.

"That's Fireman Diaz, thank you," Eddie assured him with a brief chuckle.

"Uh, no, that's only reserved for firefighters who show up to work on time," Buck joked. He stopped by his own room to grab a pair of basketball shorts off the floor, which we could all be grateful for.

"Man, I'm glad we did whatever we did in your room and not mine." The wrestling and pizza eating.

"Thanks," Eddie said dryly, eyeing everything critically for wrestling damage. "For that, you don't get to come pick up Christopher with me."

"Why punish your son for my mistakes?" Buck joked, coming back in with a trash bag. "...I didn't go to college, but I feel like this is how I would have spent college."

Pizza and beer not...wrestling. Though maybe he would have made some discoveries earlier if he had gone to college.

"Cleaning up after people?"

But yes, college might have helped a lot of things, but what about those rugged emotional issues?

"Is it cleaning up after people if it was us who made the mess?" At least he assumed it was them. Be weird if it wasn't.

"Fair point," Eddie conceded, making a face as he found a half finished beer. What kind of monster would do that? "But hey, we can afford nicer things than college students. That counts for something right?"

Living here was already letting Eddie save up a lot, which was nice

"Oh yeah, we're totally responsible adults that can afford cool stuff," Buck agreed. "This weekend was a one-off college experience."

Of two men in their early 50's who wanted to relive their youth.

"Responsible adults who apparently forgot where the hamper was," Eddie added, balling all the clothing on the floor up to dump there. It could be sorted out later. "Let's... not share the college party thing with Chris, right?"

"Dude, of course I won't," Buck assured him. "If anything I'm embarrassed by what lightweights we are."

Which made Eddie laugh and shake his head. "The real worry there," he said. "Being judged by an eleven year old would be the end of us both."
